...5 months.
Here's what we've got so far, on Friday, April 20th, 2012 the 1800 Carling branch (by Broadview) will be shutting down at 8pm for good, and re-opening at 2154 Carling in the Fairlawn Plaza on Monday, April 23rd at 8am.
If broadview was your home branch before, all your files and staff will be located at the new location and they will continue to serve you just as happily as ever.

LCBO Scheduled for Nov 21st Opening

In conversation this weekend with the ladies at the LCBO I confiremed that they are scheduled to open on the 21st of november, at the time they were in the process of shipping out custom orders to reduce their stock, who know's there may be some good deals coming up in the next few weeks.
Still working on confirming the Swiss Chalet and Harveys openings, hopefully in time for festive specials :)

Fairlawn Plaza is now The Fairlawn Centre
Have you noticed?
Fairlawn Plaza is now The Fairlawn Centre.
In recent conversations with some of the staff at Shoppers and with others working on the site the potential list of tenants has not changed over the past few months:
Shoppers, Staples, Sports Experts, LCBO, TD Canada Trust & Swiss Chalet.
However, in speaking with Mr Lam, of Starbank Developments, (owner of Fairlawn) he stated that the only tenants that are 100 % confirmed at this time are still Shoppers and Staples.
I do believe that Mr. Lam is working hard to secure these other Nationally recognized franchises as tenants. Look for onsite signage announcing new tenants is the next few weeks/months.
Many have expressed the desire to see the LCBO relocate here with a new modern store. Given that they're right across the street, in what the LCBO would admit is a 1970s building and location, I do think that the Fairlawn Centre location would be a win-win-win for landlord-tenant-customer.
One of the top requests from neighbours has been a resturant/pub. Some will be happy to see Swiss Chalet (don't be surprised if it comes with a Harveys) but many are hoping for a local pub (Royal Oak) and/or a place that caters to more of a fine dining experience.
Many Glabar and Carlingwood residence that are TD Canada Trust clients have been well served by the Carling and Broadview location for over 25 years. I have not heard anything about TD closing this branch (it is the bank I use) , but the parking has always been limited and there is no opportunity for TD to expand in this location. So whether relocating or just opening an additional branch, with better parking and has drive through banking, would seem to fit into the TD Canada Trust growth plan that we have seen in Ottawa over the past few years ( I was with Canada Trust for 17 years in Marketing and as Bank Manager and continue to follow them).
Keep posting your wishes...there's still a chance we can get that neighbourhood pub.

So Many More Wines to Choose From!
It's confirmed. Fairlawn Plaza will be the home of a new modern LCBO.
I was speaking with Mr. Lam, the owner/developer of the plaza and he has confirmed that a new building will be built at the north/west side of the parking lot for the new LCBO.
It has also been confirmed that Staples will be opening a store at Fairlawn, (in the renovated existing building).
Shoppers Drug Mart, as mentioned in previous notes, is staying. Remember that Shoppers is open during renovations.
If you have a look at the plans, (Latest Happenings at Fairlawn Plaza), you will notice that the plaza can host 4-5 more tenants.
Who would you like to see open a store? Keep your suggestions coming.

Do you know what's happening? Let us know!
Walking through the parking lot the other day I heard something new...
T & T are no longer considering Fairlawn Plaza for their next store in Ottawa.
Rumour now says that RONA has been talking to the landlord. RONA would want almost all of the space that is not being used by Shoppers. Where does this leave Staples and/or Sports Expert...? If you hear anything let us know.
I encourage you to add your suggestions and comments. There have been numerous comments from neighbours about the desire to have a nice Italian restaurant or Irish pub. Perhaps if there are an overwhelming number of people with the same suggestion it would help Starbank (the landlord) when negotiating with potential restaurants. Let’s help Starbank in getting the businesses that the residence of Glabar Park would be happy to support.
